Viewing the Towers from Below

The Serranos Towers are a must-visit photo spot. Make sure to take a picture with them, whether for social media or as a souvenir for your album 📷

Front View

The Towers are stunning and imposing when viewed from the front. Between them, there is a gigantic gate that serves as the entrance to the city of Valencia.

Back View

From the back of the towers, you can see beautiful pointed arches and ribbed vaults 👍

Tickets

You need a ticket to enter. To purchase tickets, you need to go around the tower on the right and head to the back of the structure. You will see a sign indicating “ticket,” follow that direction to get yours 🎟️

Once you have paid for your admission, you need to go to the side of the tower on the right (facing the Serranos Towers). Show your tickets to the welcoming staff, and then you can begin your visit 🎟️👍

Inside the Towers

As you ascend, you will see various elements that served as defenses, such as a murder hole or arrow slits for crossbow shooting 🏹 To reach the top, you must continue climbing these stairs.

As you keep climbing the steps, you will have increasingly panoramic views. Once you reach the last floor, at the top of the towers, the view will be breathtaking! 🤩

History

The Serranos Towers were constructed in 1392 by Pere Belenguer in the Valencian Gothic architectural style. They formed one of the gates in the city walls and were connected to eleven other towers by a wall, protecting the city of Valencia. Of the twelve Valencian towers, only two remain today:

The wall itself was demolished to expand the city.

The Serranos Towers were also used as a prison for nobles. When the original prison burned down, the prisoners were relocated to the Serranos Towers ⛓️

During the Spanish Civil War, the Serranos Towers were used to protect the artworks of the Prado Museum 🖼️

Nowadays, the Serranos Towers are one of the city’s symbols, and a visit to Valencia would be incomplete without seeing them 😉

During Las Fallas

The Serranos Towers are used for many official ceremonies. During Las Fallas, on the day of “la Crida,” the mayor symbolically hands over the keys to the city to the “Fallera Mayor” and the “Fallera Infantil” here. This ceremony is followed by an incredible fireworks display, which you shouldn’t miss 😉
